Jess Del Re, PhD, LMHC (IN), NCC, Bc-TMH
Core Clinical Faculty-Teaching
Dr. Jess Del Re is a Core Faculty member with Counseling@Northwestern at The Family Institute at Northwestern University. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC, Indiana), a National Certified Counselor (NCC, National Board for Certified Counselors), and a Board-Certified Telemental Health Provider (BC-TMH, NBCC). She earned her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Toledo in Ohio and her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Valparaiso University in Indiana.
She has been a counselor educator since 2022. In her private practice, Dr. Del Re provides competent and accessible counseling services to clients across the lifespan. She believes individuals are continually striving to understand themselves and become their best selves. Her clinical approach is rooted in evidence-based practices, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy (SFT), and feminist therapy.
Her research focuses on counselors’ multicultural competence, cultural humility, and inclusive clinical and educational practices, with a particular emphasis on online. She also investigates family dynamics within personality disorders and the integration of garden therapy and nature-based interventions. Her work in these areas seeks to elevate culturally diverse voices and experiences while incorporating holistic healing practices into traditional talk therapy.
As a core faculty member and researcher, she intentionally amplifies perspectives that challenge dominant narratives and expand collective understanding. She primarily uses qualitative research methodologies to explore the lived experiences of counselors and clients. As both a counselor and an educator, she bridges the gap between research and practice to best support counselors-in-training.
